At the meeting in December, the Grammarian selected captivate (verb) and captivating (adjective) as the Word of the Day.Captivate means “to attract and hold someone's attention completely” or “to charm someone deeply.” Its adjective form, captivating, means “very attractive” or “fascinating.”For example:Her speech captivated the audience.He gave a captivating presentation.In speeches and presentations, not only the content but also the delivery and storytelling matter. At this meeting, we experienced many truly captivating speeches that captivated the audience. These words are perfect reminders for speakers to aim to engage and inspire their listeners.

12月の例会で、グラマリアンが選んだ Word of the Dayは captivate（動詞） と captivating（形容詞） でした。Captivate は「心を奪う」「強く惹きつける」という意味で、人の注意や感情を完全に引きつけるときに使われます。その形容詞形 captivating は、「とても魅力的な」「引き込まれるような」という意味です。

たとえば、Her speech captivated theaudience.（彼女のスピーチは聴衆を魅了した）He gave acaptivating presentation.（彼はとても魅力的なプレゼンをした）といった使い方ができます。

スピーチやプレゼンテーションでは、内容だけでなく話し方やストーリーも重要です。今回の例会でも、まさに captivating なスピーチが多く、参加者の心を captivateする瞬間が何度もありました。これからも意識して使いたい、スピーカーにぴったりの一語でした。
