待ちに待った、コンテスト本番！

The Area C2 Speech Contest was held on February 1, and the venue was filled with excitement and heartfelt moments from start to finish. From Naniwa Toastmasters Club, N participated in both the Japanese Table Topics Contest and the Japanese Speech Contest, while W competed in the English Table Topics Contest and the International Speech Contest.

The topic for the Japanese Table Topics Contest was, “What is the most important thing to you?” N answered, “Family,” and the warmth of that simple yet powerful response resonated with many in the audience. In the English Table Topics Contest, the question was, “Who do you respect the most?” W answered, “My mentor in Toastmasters,” expressing deep appreciation for the learning and support found within the club.

In N's Japanese speech, she shared her experience of coming to Japan from Vietnam and struggling to learn Japanese. Through humor and personal anecdotes, she conveyed the challenges she faced and appealed to the audience for greater kindness and understanding toward foreigners. W's English speech featured an episode from when her husband was injured. Through this story, she delivered a touching message: what matters most is not necessarily doing something special for someone, but simply being there by their side whenever needed.

As for the results, N earned third place in both the Table Topics Contest and the Japanese Speech Contest. W achieved first place in the Table Topics Contest and second place in the International Speech Contest—an outstanding accomplishment.

Speakers from other clubs were equally impressive. One speaker who won first place in both the Japanese and English speech contests was so overwhelmed with joy that they were brought to tears, a moment that deeply moved everyone present.

Finally, we would like to express our sincere gratitude to the members of Wakayama Toastmasters Club, who served as gracious hosts and ensured the smooth and warm operation of the contest. It was truly a memorable and inspiring day for all involved.

2月1日にエリアC2のスピーチコンテストが開催され、会場は終始、熱気と感動に包まれていました。なにわトーストマスターズクラブからは、Nさんが日本語テーブルトピックコンテストと日本語スピーチコンテストに出場し、Wさんが英語テーブルトピックコンテストと英語スピーチコンテストに挑戦しました。

日本語テーブルトピックコンテストのお題は「あなたにとって一番大切なものはなんですか？」。Nさんは迷いなく「家族」と答え、その温かい言葉に多くの共感が集まりました。一方、英語テーブルトピックコンテストのお題は「あなたがもっとも尊敬する人はだれですか？」で、Wさんは「Toastmasters Clubのメンター」と答え、学びの場への感謝を力強く伝えました。

Nさんの日本語スピーチでは、ベトナムから来日した当時、日本語習得に苦労した体験をユーモアたっぷりに語り、日本人がもっと優しく外国人に接してほしいというメッセージを届けました。Wさんの英語スピーチは、旦那さんがけがをした時のエピソードを通して、「何かをしてあげること」よりも「そばにいること」の大切さを静かに、そして深く訴えかけました。

結果として、NさんはTable Topic contestと日本語スピーチコンテストの両方で第3位を獲得。WさんはTable Topic contestで1位、International Speech Contestで2位という素晴らしい成績を収めました。他クラブからのスピーカーも非常にレベルが高く、日本語・英語両方で1位を獲得したスピーカーが喜びのあまり涙を流す場面では、会場全体が思わずほろりとさせられました。
